Botox

What is botox?
A botox treatment is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes lines that developed over time. What is being injected is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Very low doses of Botox are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines to form. The muscles into which BOTOX were injected become "relaxed", thus reducing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. The results are dramatic and apparently within days. These wrinkles are termed dynamic wrinkles because they come on only with muscle action.

How Is the Procedure Performed?
The procedure takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It generally takes three to seven days to take full effect and it is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment.

Are the effects of BOTOX lasting?
In theory, no it is not lasting you need to come back for it every 6 months but in practice some effects linger.

It has been shown that with BOTOX done back to back (3 times a year) for 2-3 years, the target muscles become weakened "permanently".

Thereafter, much less BOTOX would be needed each time or the periods between follow-ups lengthen considerably. Hence it gets more and more lasting to approximate "permanent".
